Common questions
Quick answers about recipes, Pro, and getting your AI context set up. New here? Start with the help guide. Still stuck? See pricing or try a free recipe.
Basics
What is TailorMD?
TailorMD turns a project recipe into tailored AI context files — CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md, Cursor rules, and skills — for your stack. Pick a recipe, answer a few questions, and copy or download the result in about 60 seconds. No API key required.
What is a recipe?
A recipe is an opinionated template for a project type (Next.js SaaS, Django API, Rust CLI, etc.). It encodes stack conventions, non-negotiables, and commands so your coding assistant stops guessing and starts following your project's rules.
Do I need an Anthropic or OpenAI API key?
No. TailorMD only generates context files on the website or via the CLI. You use those files in Claude Code, Cursor, or whatever assistant you already run — billing for the assistant itself is separate.
What's the difference between the website and the CLI?
The website gives you a visual form, live preview, and zip download. The CLI (npx tailormd init <recipe>) scaffolds the same files into your repo from the terminal. Both use the same recipes. Pro gating applies on the web; the CLI currently includes all recipes.
Free & Pro
Which recipes are free?
Python Data and OSS Library are free — no account needed. All other recipes and the custom builder require Pro.
What does Pro include?
Pro unlocks every recipe in the cookbook plus the custom builder, where you compose CLAUDE.md from reusable blocks. You get unlimited generations on the web and new recipes as they're added.
Do I need an account?
Not for free recipes. For Pro, sign in before checkout so we can link your purchase to your account. We use magic link, Google, or GitHub — no passwords to manage.
Billing & Pro access
How does billing work?
Checkout is handled by Polar (our payment provider). Choose Pro monthly or Pro lifetime on the pricing page. After payment, Pro unlocks automatically for the email on your signed-in account.
Where is my license key?
There isn't one. Sign in with the same email you use at checkout — we match your Polar purchase to your account. No copy-pasting keys.
I paid but Pro didn't unlock. What do I do?
Make sure you're signed in as the same email used at checkout. On the pricing page after checkout, wait a few seconds for sync to finish. On any Pro recipe, click "Already subscribed? Refresh". If it still fails, contact us with your account email and receipt.
Monthly vs lifetime — which should I pick?
Monthly is best if you want to try Pro short-term or prefer a subscription. Lifetime is one payment for permanent Pro access, including future recipes — better value if you plan to keep using TailorMD.
Can I cancel or get a refund?
Monthly subscriptions can be canceled in your Polar customer portal (link from your receipt email). Refund policy follows Polar's terms. Lifetime purchases are one-time; contact support if something went wrong with your order.
Output & usage
What files does TailorMD generate?
Typically CLAUDE.md (main project context), AGENTS.md, .cursor/rules or .mdc files, and optional skill files depending on the recipe. You can copy a single file or download a zip.
CLAUDE.md vs Cursor rules — do I need both?
CLAUDE.md is the project-wide context Claude Code and many tools read first. Cursor rules are scoped for the Cursor editor. Recipes often include both so you're covered whichever tool you use. Use what matches your workflow.
Can I edit the generated files?
Yes — they're plain Markdown. TailorMD gives you a strong starting point; tweak names, commands, and conventions to match your repo. Re-run the generator anytime your stack changes.
TailorMD is independent and not affiliated with Anthropic. "Claude" is a trademark of Anthropic.
